Re: So now I'm interested in Cynolebias sp.
Jon,
Cynolebias species (which I like a lot) are annuals but this really only
happens in the wild. Often Cynolebias will live longer, say four or five
years, than other fish (Such as neon tetras, which only live a few years).
Cynolebias whitei is a perfect starter (they don't get gigantic,3 1/2 in.)
The smaller species tend to be more difficult to keep (Ex: Cyn. nigripinnis,
Cyn. zonatus). But Cyn. whitei can be kept in pairs in 5 1/2 gallon tanks
(try not to put males together unless the tank is about 15 or 20 gallons).
You could divide a ten gallon in half and have a pair on either side. As for
food, anything small like bloodworms, glassworms, etc. Heating is optional.
For breeding java moss, mops but works best of course is peat (boil it
before hand, otherwise it will mess with the water quality too much). Hope
this helps. Have fun with your Cynolebias!!!!!
