Re: Paypal and Bob Meyers
Hi Harry, I have always said that I would help the AKA in any way that I could. Matter of fact, if they are still taking nominations, I may run this year. My schedule is hectic and erratic ( ever notice that most of my emails come in the middle of the night). I have volunteered to every AKA chairman for the past 10 years. If you need something that I can do, let me know. I would be happy to help with the AKA mentoring program. I would also like to see the beginner's fish committee reinstated. I thought it was a good program. You could send off for a pair of fish for $8 and you would get step by step directions and someone to hold your hand. If someone is not running this for the AKA, I would be happy to help.
I did not criticize the current New Membership Chairman. I think he is doing a fine job. I have heard a few complaints , but far more success stories. The problem is that if someone mails an AKA membership in, it may take a few days to get through the mail, a few days to clear the bank, a few days to get processed. Paypal, Visa, and Mastercard all clear instantaneously. The AKA does not have to wait to know it has good funds. And Paypal does not charge the AKA a fee like Visa. Also, if a new member registers with Paypal at the AKA cite, Paypal gives the AKA $5. This could be deducted from the dues.
If someone had mentioned Paypal last year, I would not have understood. But in the last year I have seen the paper age being replaced by the computer age at a startling pace.
By the way Harry, I have a good laymans article on fish genetics and inbreeding. This may be of help to your work with chocolate australes. I will mail it to you. If anyone else wants a copy, email me at bmeyer at parkland_cc.il.us
