driftwood

Due to the serious drought here in Tampa, there is a large deposit of
driftwood in a nearby streambed, once frequented by local collectors of
various organizations.  I was wondering, when collected from the wild, what
preparation would be proper for sanitizing/treating the driftwood that I
might collect there before sticking it in with my African Killies?
