Raising Fruit Flies
I have found what has to be the absolute best way to produce bazillions of
fruit flies.
Step 1 - take your best shoe box of grindal worms, the one that is giving
you enough to feed 3 10's of fry every day!
Step 2 - introduce a starter number of fruit flies.
Step 3 - wait a week or however long it takes.
Collect fruit flies till you are sick of them.
The bad news - true story, only problem - I did not introduce the flies on
purpose, and they fly really good.
I tried the usual methods of doing fruit flies and it was beyond me. But
these wild ones are reproducing in the grindal shoe box (wet peat being fed
powdered baby cereal). So next chance I get to get some wingless fruit flies
I am going to try this method.
As for the current box - I take it outside, lift the lid, and do figure
eights over the top of it with a big brine shrimp net. Don't catch many, but
the neighbors use it as additional proof that there is something wrong with
me that is becoming serious.
But this does appear to be a very good way to raise fruit flies.
