Re: is there a book of standards for killies
Hi All:
The document was never published. There were some 200 or so judging
standards for specific species generated when the project was
abandoned. The initiation of the Watters/Wildekamp series essentially
negated the need for the species standards, and when the AKA authoriazed
that project, the ISS project which was a individual effort by me, was
dropped. The standared differed from the description portion of the
Wildekamp work only in that certain judging characteristics, deemed
"major characters" were present in the standard, and are only part of
the generalized descriptions found in Wildekamp.
The project probably still has merit and maybe some day I'll get back to
it. The Watters/Wildekamp plus published photos are typically available
in the judging room for reference by the judges. The judges mostly
judge on experience and consultation, but the standard would probably
have significant value for the entrants rather than the judges.

Maybe Killifish SHow Stankards?? Anyway, it was supposed to have a diagram of the fish with size guidelines and body guidelines. But like Lee said, most of us just judge out of memory and experience. Good luck...bob
