Re: bam-a-flavine

Hello Sandy,

I use a 2 ppm of neutral acriflavine solution as the incubating medium.
Some people use a higher concentration.

I prepare a 1000 ppm stock solution of acriflavine and dilute it to make
the 2 ppm working solution. Depending on the accuracy of your balance --
the more accurate, the smaller amount of stock solution you can prepare
(to keep it relatively fresh) -- use:

1.00 g acriflavine in 1.00 liter = 1000 ppm stock solution
100 mg in 100 mL = 1000 ppm, or
25 mg in 25 mL = 1000 ppm.

Then I add 1.0 milliliter of that 1000 ppm stock solution to 0.5 liter
of incubating water to make a 2 ppm working solution, which I then
dispense. (To make a 4 ppm working solution you would add 2 mL of the
stock solution into 0.5 liter of water, etc.) To measure out 1 or 2 mL I
use a calibrated "baby dropper" sold in drugstores for measuring
medicines, vitamins, etc.

Best,

George
