Re: Protonotropis weluka
The correct binomial for the Bluenose Shiner is _Pteronotropis welaka_.
They're found from eastern Gulf Coast Louisiana (the "Florida Parishes")
around east to the St. John's drainage in Florida. In nature they're found
in slow moving streams over mud or sand, often heavily vegetated, in 1-2
meters of water. Usually they're in shaded pools, with surprisingly cool
(oxygenated) water. For more info & leads on North American native fishes
visit the web page of NANFA, the North American Native Fishes Association,
at http://www.nanfa.org
For (native) killie content, I just received a pair of amazingly beautiful
Southern Studfish, _Fundulus stellifer_, from a creek off of the Etowah
River in Georgia. The Tennessee Valley chapter of NANFA is going on a trip
to the Little River in DeKalb County, AL, this Saturday near the Etowah;
write for more info.
