Re: tubifex cleaning
> Anyone care to share their experience and food receipts for growing
tubifex?
I grow a small amount of Tubifex in a small tub at the bottom of the garden
where my live food collection lives. The tub is a natural mini eco system.
By that I mean I put a tub outside & left it to fill up with rain water.
Algae bloomed & died away leaving the sides coated in fibrous algae & the
water clear. Into this I put a spadeful of cow manure taken from close to
one of my Daphnia ponds where it regularly floods. In this initial spadeful
was Tubifex which has established itself along with infusoria & Elodea.
Another link mentioned Daphnia culturing. The best Daph ponds I know are
regularly visited by cattle who regularly leave their calling cards. Again,
put some cattle manure in a tub & fill it with rainwater. After a few days
pour the water into your Daph culture. Works every time.
Using this system I cultivate - Infusoria, Daphnia, Cyclops, Gammarus,
Asellus & attract fly larvae such as glass & mosquito.
