If they have a place to hide, they will.  Mine like to bury themselves in
riccia if the layer is thick enough.  In a second tank(a ten) I have about a
dozen females and two young males(last spring hatch)  The females  stay more
in the open but there are not as many good deep hiding places in that
tank..I would not worry.  Maybe they are doing some good in the mop.
