I don't know the use of your nutrient agar,but usually in microbiology we
suspend x g. in y ml of purified water.Mix thoroughly,heat gently with
frequent agitation usually on magnetic stove with bar,boil for one minute
not more because very often that splash all around.Sterilize for 15 minutes
at 121 degrees C ( 15 pounds if you have an autoclave ), don't keep the cap
tightly close on the bottle you can have explosion. Mix carefully and
dispense when around room temperature.Be carefully in dispensing if to much
movement in the air around, you will catch spores.Agar is very hygroscopic
and usually does'nt smell ( nutrient agar ) keep container tighly closed in
a dry place at 2-25 degrees C.
