The future is now.
All of this giving away the store talk prompted me to get off my duff and do
something.
The growth area in killifish keeping will be Internet based groupings.
For example -- the betta club on yahoo grew to over 500 members in less than
one year. Fish sales and exchanges are regularly arranged. Information is
exchanged and problems are solved. There is an online competition every few
months -- using pictures rather than actual fish. It has spawned (pun
included) at least one local/regional club that I know of. Many many new
betta keepers have gotten their start this year via this club. And the
cost? FREE. There are many kids in this group. Yep, the kids irritate
the hell out of me from time to time, but than are hooked and into the
hobby.
To help advance the killifish hobby I have established an online club @
http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/killifishexchange.
Everybody is invited to join and there is no charge. Swap eggs, fish and
information. No charge. Help newbies learn the ropes and educate the world
about these fascinating and often colorful little fish. Environmental and
educational strands will be promoted. All information will be in the public
domain. Flames will be deleted so save them. I'm sure it will take a few
months before there is a critical mass of members to really make a
difference, but what the heck, it's free. You can bet that the AKA will be
promoted, but not required.
Enjoy.
