Re: Rose by any other name is wrong: att. Wm Vannerson.

Enjoyed your discussion of proper names of killifish, Bill and most esp the
cudoes to some of our hardworking AKA Members such as Brian Watters -
undboutedly the premier Notho collector and breeder in the world. He is a
"jewel" for t he AKA and is currently editing the Killifish Atlas of
Wildekamp vol IV. I wonder where he finds time to do all these wonderful
things as he holds a f ull time job as head of Dept of Geology at at the
University of Regina. Roger Langton is the author of Wild Collections of
Killifish and has published at least two volumes, the last being 1950-1995.
The latter was updated with the help of Wolfgang Eberl of the DKG. This is a
wonderful example of cooperation with killie people world wide. For some
reason killifish collectors do not "register" their collections with anyone
and Roger must research the literature and talk with oodles of persons to
learn the details. That is unfortunate and no doubt leads to lost collection
records. If ALL killifish collectors would notify their national killifish
organizations (the AKA is only the first and largest) to some sort of
"registry" and someone such as Roger Langton could easily gather and publish
the info. The KMI or Killifish Master Index is the "baby" of Dr. Ken Lazara
who has completed and rushing to print KMI IV, hopefully in time for the
Convention 2000. Ken has done this monumental piece of research solo and just
retired about a year ago. wow! Some people just do lots of work and all of us
are the recipients of their efforts. Thanks again and again. 0
