Re: community killies
A number of killie events and general club auctions offer extra males for
far less than what pairs go for. A couple of locals around here are inclined
to purchase for a living room comunity tank. If you are really interested
you might ask the list who has extra males of a certain strain or set of
strains for sale.
Male killies are much less aggressive if there are no females in the tank.
Placing a bunch of new fish in a tank at the same time is better than
including a late arrival who has to contend with a pecking order. Adding
females profoundly changes relationships and fin lengths in a community
tank.
And as Catherine warns watch out for significant size differences. I have
been astonished by how comfortably big old (previously mean) Epiplatys males
have co-existed with relatively small tetras. But if a fish can fit in
another's mouth, it will.
All the best!
