Re: March BNL
I think everyone has different reasons for supporting the AKA. I know
that my number 1 reason for supporting them is not the BNL. I browse it
when it comes, then file it on a shelf. Now JAKA on the other hand is a
good reason. I read that like a best selling novel. But even despite all
of that, if every resource that the AKA had to offer was only available
online and it was available to members and nonmembers equally, I would
still choose to be a member just to show my support.
I have to admit, like Bill, all of my killie business happens online. I
often buy from people who list in the F&E but my contacts with them are
made online. I am also all for offering as many services as possible to
members online. I think that will become the greatest strength of the
AKA, a major online presence.
Some ideas just off the top of my head for what could (should?) be on
the AKA web site. These could be made password protected or not as seen
fit.
* An electronic BNL offered in several formats (including word for the
microsoft slaves :-) and PDF for people who want a printed version and
even HTML. Save the AKA big bucks.
* An online forum (maybe?)
* online auction such as ebay or any of the other thousands of auctions
out there. Fish stuff only and AKA gets the standard cut as other fish
club auctions.
* online classifieds (kept strictly to aquarium related materials)
* Personal adds so we can hook with each other, wait, what am I
thinking, killie people are weird.
I am sure there could also be much more. A computer club that I belong
to actually pays a person to maintain the web site, but I have no idea
how much. So basically, I agree that the internet needs to be embraced
or the AKA could slip through the cracks into oblivion. I think all this
squabbling about a little bit of paper is silly. Lets save some of that
paper.
