Hey,

My solution has been to keep really pretty show tanks in the living room to
improve the domestic space.  Like a pretty garden a nicely planted tank
gets you kudos.  I always say water changes are just like weeding in a
garden.  That and getting really mopy when a fish dies or something goes
wrong helps get the sympathy vote.  Of course, it helps that my wife is
curious about just about everything, althought the white worm cultures on
the bedside table were a bit much.  Feeder fish are out of bounds too (for
those clawed frogs I used to have).
