Re: Mysterious death
The stress of moving could be a factor. I've often found that nothos you
raise yourself seem to survive longer than ones that come from other
breeders, especially if they are already a few months old. They don't die
instantly, but after a few weeks. Maybe its something physical like water
parameters or maybe they just get depressed. I'm not saying depression
killed them, but maybe affects their ability to fight disease. Nothos are
susceptible to velvet, which is not that easy to see. If you collected any
eggs, i'm sure you will do better with them. Incidently, a nearly dead notho
(upside down - gills just moving - if you look carefullly) can be revived by
putting it in a shallow tub with strong aeration (and maybe a touch of
salt). Keep it covered though, because when they recover they also recover
the ability to jump! If I see a dead fish in the morning (that was alive and
looking fine the night before) chances are it will be saveable.
