Nothobranchius palmqvisti & Aplocheilichthys pumilus
Greetings all,
I finally broke down and acquired some
killies reciently, Nothobranchius palmqvisti, after a couple of years
of contemplation and occasional reading. I would love to hear from anyone
else you could give me pointers on this species. However this is not the
primary reason for me posting this message.
Besides being a hobbist, I am also an aquarist for
the New England Aquarium in Boston, MA. We are begining to install an
exhibit on Lake Victoria. We have aquired a bunch of Aplocheilichthys
pumilus to include in one of the exhibits. As someone interested in
killies outside of work (where I take care of things like coral and Indo-Pacific
fishes) I volunteered to do some research on their care and breeding. I
downloaded a copy of Bob McDonnell's 1988 article on A. pumilus and
some other notes. Bob if you are on this list, I would love to hear from
you. I would also love to hear from anyone keeping this species who could
offer any suggestions on their care.
We are also interested in suggestions from any of
you regarding other Killies from the Lake Victoria area that would display
well, require a reasonable amount of care for an experienced aquarist but
someone still learning about killies, and are available (either as eggs or fish)
in the near future. We do realise that some breeding effort is necessary
to keep an exhibit stocked and have the resources available to do
it.
Thanks for your time and any info you can
provide,
Brian
