CO2 Use

I have been thinking about setting up a planted tank and was wondering
about using a CO2 system. Can anyone give me advice? Here are a few of
my Questions. Whats the best system out there? Are there computer
programs to regulate CO2 use? Does bubbling CO2 in your water make the
water more acidic or more alkaline? Would you need to daily check the
PH? Do you need to add some sort of buffer to keep the ph from changing?
Are there any good books on this subject? Do the benefits of CO2 use
outweigh the cost? Is it a waste of time and money?  Please note I am a
novice in this area, so anyones experiences and advice would be
welcomed.
