Re: freezedried bloodworms as killie food

          Bruce,

I hope the trip to Belize went well. I have used
freezed-dried bloodworms for killies and dwarf cichlids for years. They have
never given me the slightest human health problem -- and that includes frozen
bloodworms and live. I do know of several people who cannot come near the
stuff. I have found that their long term effect on fish varies with each
species. They do cause bloating and I have found that it can be fatal either
by itself or by seeming to "set" the conditions for some disease to start.
Its tough on Nothos and Fundulopanchax (any killie really that has a tendency
to get fat). Apistogramma can take it fine, but West African dwarf cichlid
species often bloat. It has no effect on tetras or livebearers or angels,
etc... I know Rosario feeds bloodworms very carefully to his fish. He feels
they are more dangerous to killies than tubifex. I agree.
I don't think they have the egg producing properties of tubifex or even beef
heart. But fish do love them. Discus like them more than anything. Its an odd
food.

  Welcome home,

    Bobby
