I halfway agree with Gunnar on this. There are some strong buffers in some
of the synthetic salts for reef aquaria that do hold the pH up. I use them
because mixing is so quick. Lately, tho, the Coralife I have gotten isn't
buffered up around 9.4, like I thought it was before.
Before using any in your killy tanks, be sure to check the pH of the
dissolved salt. You may find it so alkaline it can burn them if you have
soft water. IMHO, kosher, rock, or pickling salt (all hopefully pure NaCl)
are superior for tank added salt for most non-brackish killies. The
artificial ocean salts are too full of other "stuff."
