That's very curious.  I have a pair of vinegar eel cultures that I was using for
gourami fry, and they don't particlarly smell, beyond that of the vinegar.  Is
that what you're referring to?  Mine are in darkness in 60% water-40% applecider
vinegar and nothing else.
