Re: Notho sex change
I ran an experiment about a year ago. It was my attempted response to the
very high percentage of males that I obtained from Nothobranchius foerschi -
Aquarium strain. I had several hundred fry in a 10 gallon tank and as soon as
I could detect a male, I removed it. I kept on removing males and more and
more males kept appearing even after several months. All of the fish
remaining in the 10 gallon tank toward the end of the experiment looked like
females but they kept coloring up, one by one. I believe I ended up with less
than 6 bona fide females from that experience. It doesn't prove sex changes
happened since none of the colorless fish were detected laying eggs. At the
same time Nothobranchius palmqvisti produced a higher percentage of females
than males. Same water, temperature, etc.
