[Fwd: Re: Invert cultures]

Well, I couldn't resist. I ran a quick test.

Two glasses containing about 125cc of water full of Daphnia (presume magna),
Ostracods and mosquito larvae, were filled yesterday.

I added 1cc of "Amquel" to one glass. I admit this is *strong* but that's
what Mach implied, below.

After several hours, no obvious difference. Maybe "Amquel" doesn't hurt
them? NOT!

The mosquito wrigglers and the Daphnia are all dead, today, in the test
glass, while all are going strong in the untreated water. Overnight the
stuff killed them all.

It's interesting that the Ostracods are still going fairly strong. That's
probably why they have tended to take over my Daphnia cultures after a
while. They are closer to the bottom than in the control glass, but they
have no Daphnia or larvae stirring them up, either, so that may mean
nothing.

Bottom line is don't use "Amquel" in your invert food tanks. Thanks Mach. [I
didn't really doubt you, but my mother came from Missouri and some of that
rubbed off on me. :-)]

Wow! That may have happened to me, too. I have used it in my big daphnia
tub, and never correlated it with the mysterious crashes I have had. That
could well be why.
