Both of these feature, especially the thubmnails, add a great feal of overhead (size) to the file.  I have found that the thubmnails have limited value in a text based document, and would suggest it's not likely to be a feature suitable for JAKA.

The TOC feature, on the other hand, is very useful as it would allow quick navigation through the document.  Graphs, figures and images could also be added in the TOC as sub-items to the article.

Sounds like we've got someone on the list with a great deal of experience <s>.
