One of the proposals from 2 years ago has become law...Game fish are
specifically named instead of by Genus. A step forward I'd say.

Robert: Glad to hear my first e mail attempt worked! I just read the
older e mail, which I did not know I had. We can stock the blackbanded
sunfish any time, say early next week.
Regarding rules for enhancing non-game fish: The new GFC fishing
regulations (1998-1999) specifically list the following as Game Fish:
largemouth bass, redeye bass, shoal bass, Suwannee bass, spotted bass,
black crappie, white crappie, bluegill, redear sunfish, flier, warmouth,
spotted sunfish, longear sunfish, redbreast sunfish, mud sunfish, and
shadow bass. All other fishes can be collected without a sport fishing
license or a collectors permit (except protected rare and endangered
species). These new rules will be effective July 01.
Your suggestion regarding a license to collect small numbers of the
sunfishes, for use as aquarium pets, etc. sounds good. Bear in mind that
one does not now have to have a fishing license or collectors permits to
collect banded sunfish, blackbanded sunfish, bluespotted sunfish, or the
pygmy sunfishes, since they are not longer listed as sport fishes.
