Isn't this the same area where some have a red spot?  I have a pair 
from R.R. and they display a slight red spot at the base of the dorsal 
on both sexes, it could be that this is another color morph off the 
same gene?  Just guessing...
And speaking of H.f. - while they may be tough little fish, I find that 
mine are not reproducing.  Mating occurs on a second-by-second basis, 
but no young observed.  Heavily planted tank, but by now, any surviving 
young would be adults.  No other occupants.  No heat - probably around 
70 right now but heating up.  Well water, Ph. 7.2, variety of feed - 
dry/live, but no joy.  Thoughts?
