NFC: more on filming underwater
OK here you go... this is at the top end of what consumer grade hardware

high end consumer digital video camera with underwater housing. Cost?
$2750. Add lights, extra batteries, higher memory capacity and you're
talking in the neighborhood of $3,500 methinks.
Why digital? Higher resolution picture, easy to transfer from point to
point over the internet (if you have a broadband connection), and easier to
do PC-based post production work. T'would be a snap to do snippets of
video for the web site. And it would make it more feasable to offer video
on DVD at a later date once DVD production costs drop some more. These
cameras are also excellent for pulling high resolution still frames out of
the middle of a video stream.
$3,500 is a lot of clams. I don't anticipate a lot of people being fired up
about spending that kind of money. On the other hand, it would give us the
ability to at the very least start cataloging native fish on video and
decide at a later date what to do with it all. Archival footage is a "very
good thing".
