Re: [Killietalk] One AKAer if favor of a different time of year for the convention

Every year or two this same debate comes up about the
same time of the year. The bottom line is: if you are
able to go and you want to go, you will go to the
Convention, whenever it is. I remember when I could
not go under any circumstances. At that time it was
sometimes Labor Day weekend. Then it was moved to
Memorial Day weekend and I still could not go unless
it was within a few hours drive and I could get home
each night. Then it was on the far coast and I was
hooked and I went for the whole shebang. I have missed
only one or two conventions in the past 25 years. If
it was in the middle of summer, I would probably go
less often. In the summer months, I have two other
Conventions that I usually attend - NANFA and
Shopsmith, so AKA would probably conflict. Now that is
just my own case. I know many families with young
children that are as tied up all summer as they are
during school year. A three day weekend like Memorial
or Labor Day allows that extra day to travel and
participate. As I have said before, if you are truly
devoted to killifish you will make the local affiliate
group meetings, even though you drive 3-4 hours to get
there and you will make the National Convention,
unless circumstances forbid, no matter when or where
it is.
