[Killietalk] Cactus Killie Cook-Out Report
The 2007 Arizona Rivulin Keepers Cactus Killie Cook-Out was another success.
I would like to express a huge "thanks" everyone who contributed and
participated!
A special thanks go out to Derek Tang who allowed us to use his house for
the event. The house worked out wonderfully. The around 90 F weather also
cooperated and we used the backyard as our dining area. There was plenty of
food and no complaints were heard on that account!
Our three speakers - Sue Katz, Ron Harlan, and Scott Davis - provided
interesting and informative programs. I think everyone who attended would
say that they enjoyed the presentations. A special "thank you" goes out to
our speakers!
The raffle was a fun event and generated a lot of excitement. We received
products from quite a few aquarium and pet companies (check the ARK website
for the list of contributors), enough that I think everyone won at least one
prize - and probably more. Most of the "smaller" products were bundled in
bags (donated by Zoo Med). These were distributed first. This was followed
by the larger items. We saved the four "biggest" until the end. As it
always seem to happen, Gary Kukowski had his numbers drawn for the first two
of these.
Besides all of the attendees who brought in their killies, we had several
people ship fish to us. All of the shipped fish, except a female
Fundulopanchax puerzli and a pair of Aphyosemion australes, survived the
transportation. Needless to say, there were a lot of fish and the variety
was incredible - everything from Aplocheilus parva and Aphanius sirhani to a
bunch of rare Scriptaphyosemions to several Simpsonichthys. I did not count
the number of fish in the auction, but if I had to guess, the auction
probably contained around 150, maybe more, bags of fish. Add to that, the
numerous bags of aquatic plants, live food cultures, and a huge quantity of
fish tanks and related equipment (one of our members has to close down his
fishroom), the auction ran about 2 1/2 hours. I like to thank Sandy Binder
for handling over half of the auction. Because of his assistance, we moved
the large number of items rather quickly. Finally, with few exceptions, if
you were looking for something, it was there.
Again, I would like to thank everyone who contributed, whether they helped
with the set up or clean up, obtained audio-visual equipment, sorted the
raffle prizes and stuffed the bags, provided the food, or contributed to the
raffle and auction. Because everyone worked together, the 2007 Arizona
Rivulin Keepers Cactus Killie Cook-Out was a success. Thank you!
