There are about 800 species of killifish, so no general answer is
possible here. I suggest you go to the AKA site and check out the
on-line Beginner's Guide as a start.
Many aquarium books have answers, too. The Baensch Atlas series has
many, many killifish listed, with water and husbandry conditions
summarized for each species.
Generally, they are not expensive to maintain, but many require live
foods. Those are extremely expensive if bought at the fish store, but
rather cheap if you are willing to culture them yourself.
