Dear Sir,
I am forwarding to you a copy of a note that I sent to BAKA concerning new South African regulations that you might want to relay to your membership.
As of June 1, 2007, the Republic of South Africa will restrict the trade of these two killis as protected species: Nothobranchius orthonotus (Spotted Killifish),and Nothobranchius rachovii (Rainbow Killifish).
Quoting the South African Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, "trade" includes the import into the Republic, export from the Republic, selling or otherwise trading in, buying, receiving, giving, donating, or accepting as a gift, or in any way acquiring or disposing of any specimen.
This will amount to the practical end of new stock coming from that nation. It can be done legally, but will be prohibitively expensive, permits etc.
