Re: [Killietalk] Ice storm - standby generators
I got tired of losing many fish due to power outages and finally
upgraded my portable generator to a propane standby generator several
years ago. The generator is fed by the same tank that supplies
propane to my boiler/hot water heater. It is amazing the peace of
mind it gives you. Please note that these are not indoor units but
are permanently located out of doors. To locate them inside requires
significant ducting to supply fresh air for combustion and cooling
and is usually not allowed in residential installations. However,
they make the generators with a weatherproof enclosure that is easily
installed outside.
Jeff Kilker sells standby generators and I asked him and he said he
would be willing to talk to anyone who is considering one. He can be
reached at (585) 944-7022.
