Re: [Killietalk] Tank Heating
Small heaters in tanks can fail and cook fish very quickly. Always try to
heat the room, not small tanks. I personally would go with the oil filled
variety. The heater will cost no more than a bunch of submersibles. I keep
my "cold water fishroom" in the mid to upper 60's but right now with it at 0
or below outside nights, I have fired up my little oil filed heater in
there. Also if the room is always cool, consider some of the cool water
species. There are a ton of killies that love it in the 60's. Most
ogoense, coeleste, ocellattum, several elberte strains, even striatum and
calliurium can do very well in the upper 60's. Same with many Argentinian
species. Even if you want to mess with the warmer water killies, 60's will
do no harm other than less eggs and maybe some sex ratio problems but not
ick or other disease. To help keep the heat, tightly cover all tanks with a
glass lid.
