Re: [Killietalk] RE: The AKA Convention Fish Show

 Hi all,

I come from a different point of veiw

on all the show fish. I raised show

rabbits and I could not make many of the

meeting because it was state wide. But ALL

show entries were returned to the one

showing them. We did bring other rabbits

to donate for an auction. The idea is for

show you want to bring your best. You also

want to breed from the very best looking

fish. Ever since I read the show entries

were auctioned for the club I have been

thinking about this. It seems to me you

are getting only the second best looking

fish because the best fish are at home for

breeding. I know fish from the same batch

do not vary much with killies but there

are always that one fish that stands out

as the best. I know I could not pay as one

mentioned to enter a the fish. If I am

able to go to Tampa I will bring some

fish but not the best of the best as they

will stay home breeding since I know I

will be loosing them.

Exactly how does the fish sales room

work? Does the AKA get any portion of the

sale to help pay for the convention? I

suggest a charge for using this if there

is not one already in place.

Some one mentioned those of us that raise

fish for proffit. First of all if we added

up our time and counted it we would be

loosing money(atleast I would at this

time). I do it first because I love

keeping fish. Second is fish will pay for

their up keep if you do thing properly. I

raised livebearer for many years and made

several hundred dollars a year. But I

divided out average time spent weekly to

what I brought in that year minus expenses

and I was getting paid only a nickle an

hour. The good thing was my hobby made a

proffit and did not cost me anything.

Someone else mentioned those of us that

are frugal. I have to be. I fell at work 3

years ago(court date next month) and have

not had an income. I thank a few members

of the AKA for helping me get killies

cheaply. I will be returning this favor in

time(which should be real soon). I have

already given away several live food

cultures and sold a couple as well. I try

to help those that need it like me and get

a bit of money to help me take care of my

hobby as it has to pay for its own food or

starve right now.
