Here's an idea for the money grubbers: the AKA can have a "Challenge Class".
Have a stiff entry fee of $10, winner takes half of the fees home, the AKA
and host club split the rest. No other awards in this class, first place
only. Should be eligible for special awards too. If there are 20 entries,
the winner gets $100. If there are 50 entries, the winner gets $250, etc. Of
course, all entries get auctioned still, but you might see a great number of
excellent fish! Or, you might not. Maybe have a minimum entry level set and
refund fees if less than 5 (?) entries, then place the entries in the
appropriate regular show classes if the class is not well represented.
 
Another idea, go to all cash awards (I personally like getting the artwork
type awards, but would not be opposed to cash!). There is certainly a cost
in having those awards made.
 
Just some thoughts.
