Re: [Killietalk] Re: Re: Sanctioned naming conventions? Proposal
One of the guiding principles that prompted Charlie Nunziata and I to
produce CD's of images was to provide a reference (pictorial) of what
specific fishes looked like at a given point in time.
The gardneri album represents populations that were available
early -- when they first began appearing in the hobby. Our thought was
that most of the populations that I photographed had just began to appear,
and the probability of them being mixed populations was minimized.
The new Killifish Photo Source Book Vol I is a collection of 30
years of killies, each one with the date of the photograph, and the
Current nomenclature. The 144 species again represent a visual record of
specific killies.
We continue with this process precisely to provide a historic
perspective and visual representation of killies to help with the
identification process.
The more tools we have available, hopefully the more opportunities
available to try to keep the species name as accurate and stable as
possible. I am sure we can not be 100% successful, but to not try is to
lose an opportunity to preserve a diversified group of fish for other to
enjoy.
