[Killietalk] The Experiment
Folks,
I would like to thank all of the people who have tried to help us with their
opinion of how the experiment should go. We have some big decision to make
right now however this may be some good new maybe. In speaking with the
Research teacher at school there seems to be a great deal of interest among
some of the other kids as to what is going on in this the EXPERIMENT (as it
is being called in school) so if you guys could think a bit more then we can
come up with EXPERIMENT 2 and 3 and 4 in the following years of follow-up
experiments. Possibly, for instance, if it is decided that there IS a
positive outcome to this experiment . . . m/f ratios are increased with
isolation . . . then next year some of the kids could try to change the
parameters to find possible other causes than isolation. Temp. changes,
hardness changes etc. etc. etc. !
I want to thank up front Barry Cooper for writing to the list and suggesting
a "method" and Dan Katz for donating some bags of eggs and Diane Brown for
donating a bag of eggs. I want to thank Dick Martine for hollering at me
and telling me that while he had no eggs he would call some friends. The
AKA, as expected is coming through. Also I want to thank all of you for
"Brain Storming" on the list with us . . . you have given some direction . .
. please feel free to continue!
I would like to share a story with you. One of the kids parents is
presently involved with a Saltwater Aquarium (3-4 years). . . well, it seems
we have sparked a bit of an interest and the fellow wants to come and meet
me and see some killies in a tank situation and discuss what it really takes
to "do killies" . . .
By the way . . . one of the "Specialties" of our magnet high school (CAT) is
computers and the Media (TV and Print) . . . our kids put on a local TV
program every Saturday from 11:30-12 in the morning . . . 100% done by the
kids (http://www.cat.pinellas.k12.fl.us/foxteen/index.html) . . . take a
look! This has been for about 4 years now. It is the ONLY high school in
the country that does this on a National Network! . . . but the point to
this un-abashed commercial is that the "Experiment" will also be put on
video and edited and put onto a CD and/or DVD disk and we will make it
available to clubs at their request n/c! I suspect it will be maybe 12-20+
minutes long but it will be 1st class with titles and sound and audio like
"downtown" and all!
Note: Next year, if continued, I will start chasing eggs in the summer. I
really dropped the ball and thought Notho eggs would be EASY to find! Boy,
the biggest mistake so far has been by the teacher . . . ;-)!!!
