[Killietalk] aplocheilus lineatus
One of my male A. lineatus is in a 45 community tank where he tried to
fight a full grown rainbowfish. The rainbowfish was bigger than him, and
it lost. So they are sometimes bad. He doesn't hurt the smaller fish,
tetras, raspboras, and smaller killies are all fine. Maybe he has the
small dog syndrome-seems like small dogs only want to fight really big
dogs, which can eat them whole. They are pretty good at jumping out so
keep their tank covered, and my parent fish didn't really look that
great til I started feeding them other fish. I had some bettas with
crooked spines to cull, they were still pretty small but I fed one to
each parent every other day and they became much fuller figured, more
colorful, and active. They had been fed on live blackworms and prepared
or frozen foods before, and thought they looked fine but feeding them
fry made them into a totally new fish. When I stopped feeding the bettas
they did not lose their new quality. I have also heard of feeding them
cut up earthworms. Haven't tried it though. If they don't catch the food
before it gets to the bottom third of the tank you have to retrieve it
and retrieving cut up worms sounds unpleasant.
