Re: collecting issues

Last year, the Goldenline Travel Agency in the UK teamed with Today's
Aquarist magazine to organize a collecting trip from the UK to the Rio Xingu
tributary of the Amazon River. The total cost for the 12 day itinerary was 2,200
pounds.

Goldenline perhaps through a US affiliate might be pursuaded to offer
something similar from a US departure point. Contact information is
steve at goldenline_co.uk or you can telephone to 011-01564 783706. If someone wants to
investigate, I think that's fine, but I don't think it's the BOT's job. Rather, I think
this could be sponsored by a US fish magazine that could generate interest
from a much larger base than the AKA could provide.

This would be mostly a catfish-tetra-cichlid trip with killifishes notably
absent, but if you want a cruise pretending to be an adventure, this might be
it. They can also assist you in bringing fish back alive. Some experience
working in muck in the tropics would be educational to wannabe adventurers.

Then they can consider doing a trip on their own, without AC, roof, hot
water, or cold drinks, for two weeks at a stretch and see how much fun they've been
missing.
