re: shyness

kids pulled peat containers from the whitei on Mon. Fish are now in hiding, serious hiding. Probably 15-20 fish in a 20L lots of plants. Don't know what they did to the fish. They were really outgoing, could reach in and catch them by hand. Barely come out for food. We have another tank with young fish, no cover, always in front. Like one fish panics and it sprreads, chemical thing.

Mike and Bill, It wont solve all the shyness of your Scriptaphyosemions, but
you may try to cover the back of the tank, and the sides with some black
construction paper. I usually do this with that subgenus, leaving only the
front open to view the fish. I think they may feel insecure when alot is
going on around them, making them skittish as you were saying. The last time
that I covered the sides of the tank was for A.cauvetti Saramousaya. It
definitely helped. They still were apt to hide abit, but would eat and stay
out in the open for awhile. The male would actually show off in the middle of
the tank with a little afternoon sunlight flickering on the anubias. 2 cents
