RE: A. Geryi - Shyness
I have some Scriptaphyosemion schmitti, which behave the same, I think its
the same throughout the genus, I used to be really worried about them, but
mine seem to have survived ok. They're not voracious fish, and would
probably struggle with other more bullish fish. I was worried mine didn't
feed, all other tanks, you put food in and they come up and grab it, my
schmitts aren't like that, they eat when they're ready. It's quite a shame
as they are beautiful fish, just very shy. I've not had any luck breeding
them, I suspect they need quite soft water, which I haven't got.

Subject: A. Geryi - Shyness
I've noticed that they are extreamly shy, at least the
4 I have(3F 1M). Hiding under the few pieces of
decor,
and/or in the java moss in the tank. At times when
they are out in the middle of the tank, if I walk by
they dart back in hiding. Or infrequently they are
darting back and fourth in the tank as if they are
really nervous (aka. Freaking out!)
Is this normal behavior for this species?
the temp of the tank is 75F, and I don't believe that
it's too high. I need to recheck all the standard
water parameters tonight but at last check pH 6.8,
ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 20.
I usually due 10-20% water changes every couple of
days in the 10gallon they are in.
Perhaps I just have a really skittish species. I just
would hate to lose them, as they are the first killies
I've kept.
Thanks!
