The Meth. Blue is great as an oxygen carrier. The eggs probably
aren't fungusing because they are not dying from a lack of O2.

Returning to Dav's 'probiotic' theory. This could be the case. On the
mop will also be a host of predatory protozoans which will prey on
the bacteria etc... If there are chemicals in the mop killing these
and the bacteria then the eggs will be at greater risk as no doubt
the bacteria will be able to colonize the eggs faster than anything
else and get out of hand without the protozoans around to keep them
in check.

Some of my best mops are my oldest mops which have been through
several tours of duty.
