Re: Hurricane Lili

Allen :

So far so good....but the miserable thing is halfway ashore now and the
worst effects in New Orleans (so far) are medium to heavy rains and some
fairly heavy wind gusts......NOTHING of
hurricane intensity.

I am within the hurricane protection levee system protected by a
massive pumping system so unless we get 15 or 20 inches of rain within
several hours , we are somewhat safe. Now wind is a different matter.

Across Lake Pontchartrain the flooding is rampart and compulsory
evacuation is in effect. The flooding is only expected to get worse as
Lili goes deeper inland and turns to the North East this will push even
more water in from the Lake.

The unfortunate people there are not protected by ANY levee or pumping
systems and my heart goes out to them.
I know .....I was flooded out_once_ and is was no fun. It took us 6 1/2
months to get competent workmen, repair the damage and get back into the
house. After repairing and renovating the house , we sold it and moved
into a 2 nd and 3 rd floor Town House.

Keep those prayers coming, there are a lot of people that need them here
and elsewhere in Louisiana, especially in lower areas of South
Louisiana.

Thank God the intensity of the winds died down before land fall as it
probably would have washed Grand Isle away. Isadore washed away 2500
feet of the barrier protection and they just enough time to hastily
repair the breach.

Thanks again for the concern and God Bless.

Leo
