Re: Fishroom Design

It's appropriate for me--I'm almost finished with my room and my tanks range
from 10 to 29 gallons. Big tanks are on the bottom shelf (14" off the floor
with storage underneath) and get progressively smaller on the middle and top
shelf (10's are on the top). I have 6" of clearance between the tops of the
tanks and the next shelf, which I still think isn't quite enough. Aisles
between racks are 24" wide, and I wouldn't want them any narrower.

I've spent years with tanks scattered all over the house and all the
equipment on the back and swore that when the tanks got into one room all
the equipment would be easily accessible. I'm running mostly sponge and box
filters with all airlines and such on the front of the tank.

I also way overbuilt the racks--2x4 frames with 3/4" CDX and so on. My
husband (the money manager in the family) commented on how much lumber (and
$$$) was going into the racks. I asked him if he wanted to hear a crash and
sploosh some night and wake up to hundreds of gallons of water all over the
floor. Haven't heard any complaints since. In the long run, I think we're
better off overbuilding rather than underbuilding.

For anybody in the area (central Ohio) give me a ring if you want to come
and visit.

stacked 3 high. Modesty by most people's standards and perhaps that is the
problem. Each tank has a hang on the back, sponge, or canister filter and I
really regret not have the room to walk BEHIND the tanks.
