Re: Gold gar problem
Do you have a picture? Where did you catch it at in Oklahoma? There are gar there and it's possible you got what is called a lutino, meaning it will look mostly yellow/gold in color. Sort of a variation on an albino, I guess you could say. A good description would help in the identity, such as shape of nose (gar have either long pointed snouts or a duckbill shaped snout on an alligator gar) Where are the unpaired fins located? On a gar, they would be back on the body close to the tail. What kind of scales does the fish have? A gar has diamond shaped scales that form sort of an armor on the entire fish. Does the fish have prominent teeth?
This info would help a lot in the ID of the fish.

Subject: Gold gar problem
You are going to think I am nuts, but my son caught what we think is a gold
gar in the natural (4 feet long) here in Oklahoma. FIRST, how do we tell
what we got? It doesn't look like any gar we have EVER seen and has no
spots but is a gold/orangeish color. SECOND, where is there a gar expert we
can contact in our area? My son currently has it in his refrigerator.
