A local aquarist set up a 125 gallon tank with a CO2 unit. He pulled
handfuls of Java moss from it. The copper Crypts grew to cover the vacant
areas of the tank bottom. It was really neat to see the Java moss releasing
bubbles and just shining with color and vitality.
If he hadn't regularly harvested the Java moss, it would have filled up the
tank. It occupied over half of it as it was and kept "climbing" out.
(Harvest was easy.)
He put a couple of the king's tetras in there and some threadfin rainbows.
Enough of the tetras' eggs hatched and fry matured that he had a couple
dozen of their offspring cruising the set-up. What a neat "natural" breeding
arrangement!
One of the CKA people now is raising Java fern and Crypts much more quickly
with a CO2 unit. (Someday when I grow up....)
All the best,
Scott
