Hi Chris,
Come on, now, take a breath and let's chill. There is no need to
give up on killies, much less pour your eggs down the drain. I thought you
cared about your fish? Chris, some people are more conventional in their
manner and speech than you are and they also happen to be alot older. It's
easy on a computer to forget anyone is reading and just write whatever pops
in your mind at the moment. I spent 20 years doing theatre, so it takes a
great deal to offend me, and besides, I think most religions are the single
most obscene things on earth, but not everyone is me and since we are all in
this together, our words just need a little bit of pre-thought before we
write them. All those people wrote to you because they cared about your
question and your fish. Personally, I feel killie keepers are too fanatical
about population purity but I understand that in some cases it is crucial.
One of the best strains of blue gularis ever in the hobby was a cross between
an aquarium strain and a wild male. Not only were the babies fertile for
generations but the fish were bigger and prettier than either parent. I am
very old school though. I think the best thing for our fish is not to turn
our fishrooms into make believe nature preserves, but to keep and breed our
fish as best we can. Chris, people made a mistake with you here by jumping on
the "keep the populations pure" soapbox. Just raise and enjoy your fish. Keep
them together if it makes you happy and that is the best you can do. If they
breed great. Give them to your friends. Plenty of other guys can save the
populations for the world. Killies are a strange group of fish but they are
more fascinating than any other. Give them a chance and don't let the guys
make you mad enough to give up. Take what you need to be successful and
forget the rest.
Robert
