Fundulop. arnoldi Ughelli Population

         Hi All,

Since many of the people h\on Killitalk represent larger groups of
people within the AKA I would like to offer some observations and suggestions.

I have distributed many pairs of the F1 generation of F. arnoldi
this past year. I trust that it will become established again in the hobby.

Based on a year of observations, and having a very large pool of
wild fish to begin with, I want to suggest to everyone here who has the
fish or who knows someone who is raising this population to try to maintain
a breeding colony. This species exhibits wonderful morphological
differences, ranging from a very blue fish to a fish with vivid red and
orange unpaired fins. the caudal maintains its unique upper and lower band
which easily distinguishes from others in the group.

I am now handling F2 fish and am working to make sure this
diversity is not selectively bred out of the species in favor of a color of
the month. IN all cases, I advise a pool of at least two males and four
females where possible for a breeding pool.

Since we imported them (Terceira & Rossi i.e. TR01) at this point
we can be insured that the current gene pool is from the same site. I have
been back crossing F1 to wild in both directions to insure the vigor of the
fish as they make their way into the hobby.

Please let everyone know of the natural color variation. There is
not a "blue arnoldi" and a yellow arnoldi from Ughelli near Warri .. the
type locality but rather an extreme variability within the species.

         Good killie keeping.............. Tony
