Re: Spawning media for peat divers
Brad Higgins made a pitch for using spaghnum moss for so called permanent
set-ups. (Actually he used them about 6 months, pulled the adults, raised
the remaining kids and started over.) He had several of us from Chicagoland
scouring Frank's Garden Centers looking in the centerpiece sections for
sealed plastic bags of the dry stuff.
A friend, met too recently, gone much too soon, actually had live spaghnum
moss in a couple of his super neat shallow tanks growing out on the sides. I
think he used at least one of the tanks for frogs.
I'd love to have a tank like that to try with Rivulus. (Probably hear Tarzan
calls and see them swinging from side to side of the tank.)
Anybody have some of the live moss?
Canadians, Russians or those from the far northern U.S please feel free to
correct me, but doesn't spaghnum grow in peat bogs. Several generations and
a couple 100 years later the stuff on the bottom has formed what we think of
as conventional peat moss?
Timing is everything. :)
All the best ....
