Historical Note

30 DOLLARS!!! NOT INCLUDING SHIPPING! He wanted to charge me 27 dollars for
PRIORITY mail!!!

On the other hand, I've paid more than that for some killies that I really
wanted. ;) Then there was the $150 in expenses while driving to Detroit for
two pairs of free killies (A fool and his money...)

I agree that sounds high, although some shops have comparable prices is a
loosing struggle to pay the bills.

I suppose one could tease and ask how much it takes to fill up the SUV's gas
tank, take a ski weekend or buy a fashionable pair of athletic shoes.

Or we could pay $100,000 for a full grown, prize winning breeder koi. ;)

But instead let's go back to George Maier's first pair of chocolate
lyretails or Aphyosemion Australe. George was a German-American buying this
pair of rare killies, called the Cape Lopez Killie then, in the late 1930s I
believe.

The numbers don't sound very impressive, but that pair of fish cost him the
equivalent of a week's pay.

During that time period a pair of angelfish (possibly a male and female,
definately two) cost more than what most working stiffs made in a month. And
those guys had rent to pay, families to cloth and feed and probably a spouse
to explain the purchase to. :)

All the best!

Scott
